Chairman's Welcome

Welcome EE enthusiast!

I am writing this note from my new office in the PBS Pinchback Hall. Congratulations on being selected to become a part of our department! If you are reading this message, you are probably getting ready for studies or research work in Electrical Engineering. These are the web pages of the Southern University Department of Electrical Engineering, where you will find answers to all your questions.

Electrical Engineering is the dynamic branch of the engineering profession involved in the design of devices that create and control electrical energy. Electrical engineers are being called upon to not only design devices that harness electric and photonic energy, but also to surmount barriers and battles that the human race has fought over the history of science and technology.

Dr. Pradeep K. Bhattacharya
Chairman and Professor
Department of Electrical Engineering

At Southern University, the Electrical Engineering program provides a research-oriented education in preparation for a research, industrial or entrepreneurial career.  The undergraduate program facilitates students pursuing graduate school who are presented with opportunities to work on technologies of the future.  The program explores fundamental aspects of engineering applications and also allows students to undertake projects that have national and international impact.

Our department offers the Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Our department has also been an active participant in the Master of Engineering graduate program since its incorporation in the Spring of 2002. We are now in the planning stages of a Computer Engineering program which would be offered in the very near future. In addition to the standard degree program and course-offering, other courses and dual degree programs are available through our participation in inter-institutional programs with several other universities. A dedicated team of students, professors, chairs and deans have been functioning to improve and update our program. Besides, another devoted team of Engineering Visitors (alumni) have been looking over our operation and assessing our performance.

I am sure you will find your EE experience a very rewarding one and an excellent preparatory camp for the rest of your EE career. Please feel free to browse around these webpages, and contact me with any questions and comments you may have. Good luck in all your endeavors.
