ACTIVITY SCHEDULE
ESI is an intensive four-week program. Classes offering enrichment in mathematics, science, engineering, and computer applications are held on Mondays through Thursdays. Fridays are reserved for field trips to industrial facilities, including visits to companies such as Exxon Chemical, General Motors, and Dow Chemical USA. This activity schedule provides participants with a first-hand look at commercial engineering opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, submit a current transcript, recent standardized test scores, a letter of recommendation from a current or recent math or science teacher, and 250 word essay.
PARTICIPANT COST
Participants must pay a $300.00 non-refundable registration fee. The University and supporters of the Institute will defray all other expenses for participants except transportation costs to and from the Institute and personal expenses. Do not send the registration fee with your application, you will be informed when to submit the fee if you are selected as a participant.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION
Students entering grades nine through twelve may apply. Students will be notified whether or not they are selected to participate in the Institute by April 30th. Forty high school students will be selected to participate in the program.
DATES
The Engineering Summer Institute will be annually held on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus from the second week of June through the first week of July.
