ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The purpose of the Engineering Scholarship Program is to increase the quality and retention of students in the College of Engineering by providing financial aid based primarily on merit. The Engineering Scholarship Program supports undergraduate engineering students, prospective incoming freshmen, and transfer engineering students.

Scholarships in the College of Engineering are supported by foundations, industries, governmental agencies, the College of Engineering, Southern University and A&M College-Baton Rouge, professional and educational organizations, alumni, and private contributions. The most beneficial aspect of the scholarship program is the opportunity it gives students to pursue career goals free from financial obligations.

To find out about scholarship opportunities, students can peruse the Engineering Scholarship Program web site, watch bulletin boards across the College of Engineering, or sign up on the Engineering Scholarship Program Mailing List. To sign up on the Mailing List, send a message to peters@engr.subr.edu with "subscribe scholarships YOUR FIRST NAME YOUR LAST NAME" in the body of the message. The Engineering Scholarship Program also provides resources for students to search for scholarships outside of SUBR and outside the College of Engineering.

SCORE, the NSF-funded scholarship program is available beginning Summer 2007. To apply for SCORE, please complete the SCORE Application and have two of your teachers to complete the SCORE Recommendation Form.

College of Engineering scholarship applications are due by March 1 for the following fall. Scholarship awards are typically announced in early July for the upcoming year. Scholarships are also awarded throughout the fall and spring semesters by companies and outside organizations. Some scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years and others have internships associated with them. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required to obtain and retain all scholarships. The College of Engineering Scholarship Policy specifies conditions based on student classification.
