Professor M. Q. Burrell
M. Q. Burrell received his formal education at Howard, Montana State and Tulane Universities. He served as Chairman of the M. E. Department from 1959 to 1972, Dean of the College of Engineering from 1972 to 1987. He taught courses in Engineering Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Heat Transfer from 1987 until his retirement in May, 1997. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana and holds membership in many professional societies and organizations. He continues to serve as an advisor and counselor to the students in the M. E. Department. |

Professor Ira Graham

Retired from the College of Engineering and S.U. May 30, 1991.
One of the five faculty members to start the engineering instructional program for the College of Engineering at Southern University in the year 1956. Developed Manufacturing and Material Science program in the M.E. department. ; worked several U. S. National Laboratories, Sandia, Livermore, Battle Northwest, Hanford Atomic Energy and General Motors, Inland Steel and Deere and Company.

Professor Robert L. Scott, Jr.
Dr. Scott retired from the department in January 1989. He joined the staff immediately after completing the B.S. degree at Southern in 1963. He worked on a variety of experimental problems related to thermo science. Dr. Scott received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering at Southern Methodist University in 1974. He is a registered professional engineer.

Professor H. Cavit Topakoglu
Dr. Topakoglu retired from the Department at the end of 1998 Summer Term. He joined the thermo/fluid group in Department in 1981. He was promoted to the rank of full professor in 1988. He worked on a variety of heat transfer related problems including secondary flow in curved and helicoidal pipes with various cross sections.
Dr. Topakoglu received his Doctor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Technical University of Istanbul, Turkey in 1951. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana.

Professor Chu-Chen Chen
Dr. Chen retired as an Endowed Professor of College of Engineering. He received his doctorate degree from Texas A&M University. He taught all courses in the thermal science area, and in addition served as the Project Director for many DOE/DNR, NSA, and USAID funded projects worth more than two million dollars. He also served as the Principal Investigator for two International Projects done in collaboration with the nations of Egypt, and India respectively. He published more than (50) energy related papers. During his tenure as the State Energy Auditor with the Department of Natural Resources, Dr Chen helped to established the Louisiana Energy Construction Code, the State Performance Contract, and performed more than (400) hundred Technical Audits for the State of Louisiana. He is a registered Professional Engineer and the member of AEE ASME ASEE, and Pi Tau Sigma.
